WHY THIS TOOL EXISTS

Extract readable text from PDFs without sending them away

This tool uses PDF.js in your browser to read selectable text from PDFs and save the result as a plain text file. It is useful when you want to copy content, make notes, or reuse text from a document without opening a server-based converter.

Benefits: Extract text locally, batch multiple files, keep the original PDF untouched, and download plain text output instantly.

Best for: Reports, contracts, notes, documents with selectable text, and quick content reuse from PDFs.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Scanned PDFs that only contain images will not produce useful text without OCR.
  • Complex page layouts can produce line breaks that need a quick manual cleanup.
  • Very large PDFs may take longer because every page is read on your device.

Questions before you use it

Can this extract text from scanned PDFs?

Only if the PDF already contains selectable text. Pure image scans will need OCR, which this tool does not do.

Will the PDF be uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened in your browser and processed locally with PDF.js.

Can I extract text from multiple PDFs?

Yes. Add multiple files, extract them in one pass, and download the results individually or as a ZIP.
